This Game Should Have Succeeded
One of the most underrated game went by people's radar is now coming to Switch 2
You know, publishers have no right to be third party distributors of particular games. Especially a masterpiece from 2023 that needed more time in the oven before taken out to service. Wild Hearts is what you could call a fresh take on monster hunting.
In fact, the perfect formula for success laid bare, all it needed was the right marketing and QA and EA could have just relished another great IP. They squandered it for some reason. I remember playing the game, enjoying it with glee as it introduced while entire mechanics about hunting Kemonos.
Creatures based on a fictional fantasy land in Feudal Japan. Where you hunt wild monsters based on Japanese folklore and then some. Their design awestruck me, inspirations from every anime you've seen like Mononoke, Naruto to Berserk, Claymore, and so on.
The one half of combat hinges on your ability to summon and crafting Karakuris. Think of it like Naruto’s Jutsu abilities, you'll create traps, bombs, towers, trebuchets, hammers, etc. Oh yeah, you have to memorize the commands too.
Weapons need materials to be created or upgraded to scale against powerful foes. The grind takes time to get there, but you'll gradually learn new skills while obtaining the best weapons suited for specific monsters.
Visually captivating vistas, environment design based entirely around Japanese forests and mountains. Add engaging story and characters with more than decent voice dub, it's like a cherry on top of a Soufflé. Bad analogy, but you get the point.
It was surprising to see it finally coming out for the Switch 2 as a revival. With added 4-player couch co-op. This game deserves the chance to go up against the monopoly of all monster hunting games. I really hope it succeeds. I also hope to god it runs well.
